Role: Junior Event and Communications Intern at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC)
SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
One of my main tasks as an intern is to help manage the SOJC social media accounts, @UOSOJC. I draft social posts and design graphics, as well as relay engagement and insight information to my co-workers to help better understand how we can reach our audience.
WRITING FOR THE STUDENT BLOG
The SOJC Communications office values student experiences. Each intern writes one blog post per term highlighting something relating to the SOJC. I wrote my first student blog post about creating Allen Hall Media, which you can read here. I also wrote about the SOJCs Golden Gate Ducks professional development trip to San Francisco, which you can read here.
Helping plan large events is a big part of the job. Whether it be a Back to School Social, Hall of Achievement Gala, or SOJC Commencement Ceremony, I do my best to ensure the event runs smoothly by providing all the support I can alongside my co-workers. Tasks include reserving spaces, coordinating with other departments at UO such as catering, making detailed agendas, and being the on-site support during each event.
